Enzo Fernández arrived at Núñez, home of River Plate, in 2007. Marcelo Gallardo recommended him to leave on loan to Defensa y Justicia (2020) where he reached maturity in his game, to return to River and become one of the best players of South American football. In July 2022 he crossed the Atlantic to sign for Benfica (10 + 8 million euros).
Style of Play
He’s a central midfielder, being able to play any role, great technique, participating in the build-up all over the field.
Great passing range, excelling especially in the long ones, having the ability to constantly switch the ball. If he has something different, it’s the large number of possessions but always for a few seconds, since he makes decisions at great pace, choosing the best pass, trying to progress and break lines.
The good use of his body allows him to protect the ball effectively, losing few balls and always offering himself to receive it.
Looks for key passes or making runs from deep, having a wide variety of finishes, with good scoring figures in recent seasons.
Very intelligent player on a tactical level, having good defensive positioning, making a lot of recoveries with the tackle.

An outstanding player for his youth, I expect a high performance at Benfica that will allow him to reach one of the best clubs in Europe in the short term.
