Gabriel Slonina is the only goalkeeper from 2004 who is already a starter in the elite. He has been in every age group of the national team, and is expected to debut in the big one soner than later.
Expecting to be bought by a European team in the coming months, having been linked to Chelsea or Real Madrid, he remains a starter week in and week out at the Chicago Fire, where he made his professional debut.
Style of Play
His mentality is undoubtedly his most outstanding aspect. He has world-class self-confidence, reflected in all his statements off the pitch and on the pitch being a leader, very vocal in set pieces.
He has an ideal physique to be a top level goalkeeper, he uses his body very well closing down spaces in 1 vs 1 and avoiding chances in crosses, having some difficulty blocking the ball. He reaches the posts effortlessly from long distance shots. Additionally, he has good reflexes and placements.
With his feet he makes very good decisions, being very precise in the distribution, avoiding mistakes under pressure. He needs to improve in long balls.
Injuries
Player without serious injuries.
Projection
Called to be a champions league goalkeeper, he will have to improve at a technical level and his concentration to fight for the label of the best in the world in 8-10 years.
As of now it’s difficult to imagine him being a goalkeeper in an European contender, so it would be positive if his career continued in MLS for 1 or 2 seasons.
