Rebuilding Bayern Munich: Guerreiro, Kim…

After Bayern’s poor end to the season, with the departure of Nagelsmann and the sacking of Oliver Khan and Hasan Salihamidžić, the German team is entering a rebuilding period in which they have to make several important decisions, after failing to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League in any of the last 3 editions.

We start with the goalkeepers: Manuel Neuer, Yan Sommer and Sven Ulreich. It’s a position where Bayern don’t need to sign right now but they have to do a good scouting for 2024 as they are 3 old goalkeepers, with Sommer being the youngest at 34, so Bayern will have to get it right by signing a youngster next year.

The defensive line is the one that will see the most changes, with the arrival of Raphael Guerreiro, a player who has different characteristics to Davies, of whom there are more and more rumours about a future move to Real Madrid. The Portuguese is a versatile player who gives Thomas Tuchel the possibility of playing him as an inverted full-back following the trend seen in the Premier League.

The other big signing looks set to be Kin Min-jae, the Korean centre-back would raise the level of the team, bringing strength and reliability to a position in which Bayern have shown weaknesses in European competition.

In midfield I think that is where Bayern need to make a very important signing. Konrad Laimer is already a new Bayern player, we have to wait and see what happens with Marcel Sabitzer, but I think they need a midfielder with good build-up and driving ability. Players like Frenkie de Jong or Declan Rice who can play in the double pivot alongside Kimmich, sharing defensive duties, would be ideal.

And up front, the big question is who will be Bayern’s centre-forward. There is a lot of quality with Coman, Musiala, Sane, Gnabry… but a striker who is capable of scoring more than 20 goals in the Bundesliga is needed.

I think there are 3 center forwards who would fit Bayern:

Victor Osimhen, who scored 26 goals in 32 league games to end the campaign as Serie A’s top scorer, with all of them inside the box.

Harry Kane a proven goalscorer, he is in his peak years and has just one year remaining on his contract at Tottenham Hotspur. Kane scored 30 goals in the Premier League.

And Randal Kolo Muani, the 24-year-old  recorded 26 goal involvements in 32 league games (15 goals and 11 assists) – four more than anyone else in the Bundesliga. He ranked first in the league for take-ons in the opposition half  and the most take-ons in the opposition box.

We’ll see what Bayern get in the transfer window and if Thomas Tuchel builds a team to dominate in Germany and fight for the Champions League.
