REAL MADRID HAVE A PROBLEM: BELLINGHAM & ANCELOTTI’S NEW 4-4-2

Let’s analyze the problem that Real Madrid has with Ancelotti’s new shape. In this 4-4-2 without a diamond, Bellingham is the left winger out of possession.

This means that when Real Madrid recovers the ball, Bellingham has to move from the left wing to the central channel. If Joselu plays, Bellingham switches position with Rodrygo, but if the forward doesn’t play and the one who presses is a midfielder, Bellingham has to run many meters, to allow Rodrygo to continue on the left side.

This creates problems when Madrid recovers the ball because Bellingham can’t contribute in many transitions.

Although the main problem is when Madrid loses the ball, since Bellingham is very far from the left side, Rodrygo doesn’t give support to the left-back creating a weakness that has already cost Real Madrid several goals.

Ancelotti will have to find a solution to this problem.
